Public and private banks practices is the theme of an event hosted by SITAWI

SITAWI Finance for Good, with support of the Fundação Mott and Bank Information Center, will host the event “Socio-environmental Responsibility in the Finance Sector: public and private banks practices” on September 20, at Atântico Business Hotel in Rio de Janeiro.

The event will start at 08:30 and it will have the presence of represents from BNDES, multilateral finance institutions, commercial banks e development ones, as well as consultants and civil society organisations. In this occasion, it will be launched the Socio-Environmental Responsibility Pathways in BNDES, which brings an analysis about bank practices and development opportunities that can influence all Brazilian financial system.

The panels will address views on the topic and share experiences on environmental management in the financial sector. Amongst the participants confirmed are Gabriel Visconti, Head of Environment and José Guilherme Cardoso, Chief of the Environment Department of BNDES; Christopher Walls, Head of Socio-Environment Risks of Santader Brasil; Rodomarque Tavares Meira, Desuc Coordinator of Brazilian Central Bank; Maria Eugência Taborda, Sustainability Manager of Itaú-Unibanco; Gladis Ribeiro, Socio-Environment Specialist from Finance Sector of IFC – International Finance Company; Carlos Thadeu de Oliveira, Technical Manager of IDEC – Consumer Protection Institute and Alessandra Cardoso, Public Policies Advisor of INESC – Socioeconomic Studies Institute. All the panels will be led by SITAWI Director, Mr. Gustavo Pimentel.

In the afternoon, a workshop about Financial Flows without deforestation: challenges and opportunities for financial institutions will be held. In this space, it will be launched by WWF and SITAWI two publications on the subject: “Guide to Good Practices for Finance Institutions” and “Financial Opportunities on deforestation reduction”. This panel will have the presence of Fábio Guido, Specialist in Sustainable Finance of WWF Brasil; Fred Seifert, Senior Consultant in Sustainable Finance of SITAWI and Aline Aguiar, Senior Analyst of Socio-Environmental Risk of Rabobank.
